The Google Trends variant we intend delving into examines five unique 2022 trends in the United States of America to help make a marketing strategy for 2023. To curate associated graphs, these topics came to the fore:

To decipher the search volumes of each topic in the United States, Google Trends carved out a list of states where they ranked high in terms of search volume and regions where these keywords were barely searched for at the time.
Although this Google Trends results focuses on 2022, note that results showcased in featured graphs represent results from January 2nd all through to the latter parts of December (4th). The report was generated on the 20th of the December, 2022.

Here’s a breakdown of the featured topics alongside the regions where their search volumes were high:

The Search Engine Optimization (short for SEO) topped the charts of this Google Trends study. This term reached its apex (100) in terms of search volumes in New York.
Coming in a close second was Virginia with a 65 value. Within the period earmarked for this trend analysis, New Jersey ranked 3rd with 41. Kansas and Ohio had similar results with 41 each.
Related queries for Search Engine Optimization during the highlighted timeline (January to December) showed that the terms acronym – SEO – attained the 100 mark, thereby ranking as the most popular term. Other search inputs were miles behind. While queries like SEO Company had a value of 8 in total searches, variations like SEO services, SEO is, and best SEO, ranked at the tail-end of proceedings with a value of 6.
2. Google Ads
We live in a time dominated by optics. People who own businesses want to ensure products and services are visible to their farm area. Thus, it’s unsurprising that Google Ads – a revered advertising service – has become a trendy topic in several regions across the United States.
According to the graphs curated by this Google Trends study, the term “Google Ads” attained its peak search volume (100) in California and Utah.
Nonetheless, this term’s popularity levels in other regions were high and there wasn’t much separating these states. For context, New York tallied a value of 99, whilst District of Columbia enjoyed a similar search volume amount of 95. Rounding off the top 5 list was the Florida – denoting a search interest of 89.
In 2022 (January 2nd to December 4th), the most popular query connected to Google Ads was the term – Ads. This topic earned a perfect score of 100, showing that it reigned supreme amongst search engine users seeking context into this service.
Second on the list, with an overall value of 98 was “google ads“. After these first two topics, the remainder – adwords, ad Google, and Google adwords – featured low values of 21, 17, and 11, respectively. This downward trend reiterated that while these terms came into the top 5 queries for the “Google Ads” keywords, they were used sparingly by residents of the highlighted US states.
3. Social Media Marketing
The times we live in are referred to as the “jet age“. With people craving speed and convenience simultaneously, social media channels have simplified information dissemination and it’s only normal for people to get perspective on how they can market themselves and their businesses on related platforms.
Social media marketing remains a trendy topic in 2022. Narrowing our scope to the United States, this keyword reached peak popularity in New York with a perfect score of 100 – confirming the fact that it was widely searched for by New Yorkers in 2022.
Ranking second this Google Trend timeline was Virginia, accumulating a score of 79. The remaining three states with decent search volumes for the “social media marketing” topic – New Jersey, Georgia and California – all had values in the 60s (68, 62, and 62, respectively).
Concerning search queries attached to the “social media marketing” trend, the primus inter pares of all other terms was “social media” with a perfect 100 value. This popularity isn’t surprising as most people use similar catchphrases to sieve out top channels for marketing-geared initiatives.
“Marketing” ranked second on the list with a value of 67. The first two terms used together as a query – social media marketing – earned third place and was valued at 64 in terms of search popularity. With “social marketing” gathering a carbon copy search rate of 63 also, media marketing pulled into the 60s, depicting a value capped at 61.
4. Email Marketing
Albeit a tad old-fashioned email marketing comes to the fore for effective and streamlined advertising. In 2022, residents of New York were touted to have searched this topic the most in the United States with an impeccable “100” score. Although the popularity levels dipped a bit, the District of Columbia came in second, depicting search volumes valued at 88 – just 12 points adrift of the obtainable at New York.
Virginia ranked third at 66 points, over 22 points behind second place. However, this value indicates some interest in the “email marketing” keyword in this region. Kansas ranked fourth at 63 points and New Jersey showcasing scores of 59.
As expected, the query that ranked above others shared semblance with the actual term – marketing email. Fielding a 100 score, this term ranked as the most prominent in our top 5 listing. The other four related phrases – best email marketing, marketing emails, what is email marketing, and free email marketing – ranked at the lower end of the spectrum fielding values capped at 9, 7, 5 and 4, respectively.
5. Content Marketing
With the modern-day era fielding individuals that lean towards an entity based on their offerings, businesses (fledgling and revered) are turning towards content marketing to stay afloat and make decent revenues.
The Google Trends graph in this study highlights “content marketing” as an important trend alongside the aforementioned topics. Search volume-wise, New York takes the reins once more with a top score of 100. Virginia comes in at 65. The trajectory from here is downwards – the District of Columbia (62), Ohio (60) and Mississippi (57).
During the timeline of this unique Google Trends analysis, distinct queries made the headlines. The most notable of them was content and marketing content. These keywords had frequency values of 100 and 98, respectively.
Nonetheless, it’s pertinent to note that search phrases such as content marketing strategy, content marketing agency, and how to content marketing whilst ranking in the top 5, showcased meager values (6, 5, and 5, proportionately).
These values grant insight into how much residents of showcased regions lean towards the “content” and “content marketing” queries for accurate results on their content marketing-geared searches.
